bobby, what a view

surprised i can still type. (revisit: this was taken a few days before Bobby became, now irretrievably, distressed. such a cheeky little boy before that. keep your tail up at the bridge, Bob Bob, we are thinking of you.)

yes Mary, it's so good to see how kittens from the animal family alumni have grown. here's Skoda. she now has her own blog which she shares with new mates, Braun and Mikki.

their mummy, Mighty Mouse faced the age old dilemma of cat lovers whole Singapore over, what to do with stray cats on death row besides turning their home into their very own SPCA? they chose to open their home once again and that's how Mikki and briefly, blessed Mikey, became part of their family.

the animal family still has 2 rescued strays in the utility room until we are satisfied that the streets are safe again. white grey has passed on, given up on this miserable life that has shown him little but the back of the pest control truck and the pound. all 3 cats were ill from something they caught from their cheerless transit (somehow, they don't come out quite the same). Gin-Gin and Bon-Bon however, have stayed strong and are recovering beautifully.

over the week, the animal family has been told that this all seems like an exercise in futility: sterilise cats, they still get caught, claim cats from pound and they end up not making it anyway. through all of which, no perceivable dent in the number of strays that continue to be caught and (humanely) destroyed has really been made.

still, we should not make it easy for them to continue their vicious culling cycle. they will just have to contend with the fact that some of these cats are not going to go quietly.

plumb plumb Skoda

we are in for a treat. new pics from MightyMouse @ Skodaland!

people can never get over just how fast cats grow up. then again, ask any mum and they will tell you they can remember when their pot-bellied, faintly stubbled son (or daughter) was a baby like it was yesterday.

so this is me a year ago. everybody now... aww.

It's such fun to see how our friends/siblings have grown up too. if you like to see pretty Skoda's journey from kitten to adulthood, the strolling version, click on. if you are the kind that likes to skip to the last page of the novel, go here instead. while you are there, check Suede out too.

MightyMouse says that Skoda and Braun are getting on well. Sometimes they will engage in high speed chasing, biting, wrestling and pawing, but that's how us cats show love don't we Fruity? (bish bish)

Skoda has put on quite a bit of weight and Mighty Mouse is wondering if she should stop free feeding so that Skoda and Braun don't overeat. the man and woman should try that too. have they seen Fruity lately?

Fruity's retort is that fat cats get more cuddles.

i say stop free feeding, definitely. grr.

anything you can do i can do better

i can do anything better than you.

no you can't.

yes i can.

no you can't.

yes i can.

I can drink my liquor faster than a flicker
I can do it quicker and get even sicker
I can live on bread and cheese
And only on that? Yes, So can a rat

Anyone you can lick, I can lick faster
I can lick anyone faster than you
With your fist? With my feet, With your feet? With an axe
No you can't, Yes I can, yes I can

they so love their Irving Berlin.

Skoda's mummy says Skoda is quite keen to play with Braun and she has taken well to sharing her space with the new kitty. Braun is still on the side of caution with Skoda but things are definitely looking up!

Skoda, play nice ya?

Skoda has a new playmate, Braun. except, there is more hissing than there is playing. Skoda, you know what they say about holding friends close and enemies closer... now she looks like the sweet adorable one who is so 'poor thing' kena bully by you.

oh oh, Skoda, she really is adorable.

greetings from Skodaland

Skoda is growing up to be a really pretty girl. her mummy says she has exchanged her biting habit for kisses instead. when carried, she will tilt her head upwards, close her eyes and give quick, short kisses to her mummy. aww...

Suede comes home

the people who adopted Suede and her siblings Bronze and Rice returned her yesterday.

according to them, Suede is very naughty, always instigating the rest of the kittens to mischief and mayhem, so they can't keep her. she spends a lot of time in a cage as they can't deal with her antics. the woman decides then that it is best to take her back so that she has a fighting chance for another loving home that better suits her.

the man and woman are at least happy to see Bronze and Rice doing great when they visited the 3 of them last week. the adorable Bronze has even bonded beautifully with their timid 2-yr old persian cross.

Bonnet (now named Tiara) is also doing well, being the darling of her new family. she is no longer shy, bouncing happily around her new mummy's room and letting the man and woman hold and hug her during their visit. the difference a loving family makes to a wary kitty.

the animal family also received an update recently from Grey's (now named Skoda) new mummy and daddy. the little princess is at times amorous, at times playful, more times fierce. sleeping apparently remains her sweetest moment. they have 2 nicknames for her - Chia char bo (fierce girl) and Kaypoh Cat!

Suede is at this moment snuggling up to the man, rubbing her head on his chin and clouding his judgement on her fate. after all, he is used to lively kits after contending with Bobby and me. the woman still hopes to find a home for her.

i guess we cats will get used to a new kit in the house soon enough but one of us has to be the sensible one here and wonder about the rate this animal family is growing. looks like i might be the only one.

the fun never stops

fruity's godfather (yes, how come i don't have one?) leaves our place at 4am after a late night. when he and the man enjoy one last smoke downstairs, they see a tiny kitten run under a parked car. worried, they peek underneath only to discover that the kitten has climbed into the engine.

they call the crazy cat lady down and they spend an hour trying to lure the kitten out. it is well and truly stuck. it doesn't help that the car is installed with a body kit and sitting on a hump. the woman can barely get her head in underneath but sees nothing. 5am and dead tired, they wonder what they are going to do:

1) leave note on car - it is a sunday and there is a high chance the owner might sleep in. the kitten might fry under the hot sun.

2) keep luring the kitten until the owner comes - less sleep, same conclusion.

3) rock and lift the car - go to jail

4) track down owner

crazy as it sounds, that is what they do. seeing an SPF decal on the car as well as some related paraphernalia, the woman calls the police (not the emergency line la) to see if they can track down the owner (possibly a police man) by licence number.

the officers who drop by are cool. as soon as they hear the kitten meow, they are just as anxious to help it get out. but it is still rather a funny story that begs to be told.

the first patrol car comes by and the 2 officers call in the screening of the car after verifying the details of the 'case'. half hour later, another patrol car and 2 more officers drop by. (they called for back-up) by then, there is word from hq that the screening system is down so the 4 officers make a go of it and start rocking the car to see if they can dislodge(?) the kitten.

at 6.30am, the owner of the car shows up. it doesn't happen everyday that you see 4 policemen rocking your car downstairs when you are brushing your teeth. he quickly releases the bonnet and we rescue Bonnet from it. The charcoal-coloured kitten is scared shitless.

sometime during the night between the arrival of the first patrol car and the second, a cleaner comes round to see what is going on. he tells the civilian rescue squad about a box of kittens left out in the corridor of a neighbouring block. the woman and friend go check it out and indeed, find a box of 5 kittens wallowing in their own diarrhea and vomit. they remove the kittens immediately into a proper carrier. when Bonnet is rescued, she is placed with the kittens and they all drive straight to the vet.

the kittens are now up for adoption. hope they all find good homes soon.
